Sailing the East Sea Home
Returning to Korea after an eight-day trip through Japan. The journey included visits to Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Osaka, and Koyasan via bullet train before taking a ferry back to Busan.
I reflected on how reality often differs from preconceived notions. While some areas like Tokyo felt dated, Kyoto proved "unexpectedly cosy," and Koyasan was a worthwhile last-minute addition. Rather than disappointment, I experienced pleasant surprise at how Japan subverted expectations.
Upon arriving in Busan, the hostel owner organized an impromptu group outing to a local restaurant near Haeundae beach. What I anticipated as a quiet evening transformed into an extended celebration involving dinner, karaoke, and bar hopping with fellow travelers from Britain, America, Germany, and Austria.
Being back in Korea, I felt home, even if it's just home for now. The trip provided memorable experiences, yet returning felt equally significant after five months abroad.
